shine altos de chavon

This past Saturday, December 8th 2012, amidst the magical holiday inauguration in Altos de Chavón, Shine “concept store” celebrated their grand opening in Altos de Chavon. Shine, who offers top-notch services to make every woman feel like they are “the only girl in the world”, opened their doors to the Casa de Campo public on this magical breezy night and celebrated the occasion amongst friends, family and future clients with wine and hors d’oeuvres.  Wearing my “Kate Middleton wedges”, a great option for a long night out on the cobbles of Chavón, my first stop for the evening was Shine. Walking in, I suddenly felt short; correction…super short. All the women around me were walking around in these glamourous 6 inch heels (welcome to Casa de Campo!). As a Miami native I instantly got the “Miami-scene” vibe; long hair, fashionable, flashy outfits and yes red lipstick. And then I thought “There is no place like home”, I was exactly in the right place; I was in Shine. Acting as the evening’s glamorous hostesses were co-owners Yovanka Saladin and Consuelo Matos, both Casa de Campo villa owners with a passion for fashion and beauty – making Shine the perfect business enterprise for this gorgeous pair! Casa de Campo villa owners, residents and guests were treated to a refreshing glass of crisp white wine and some picaderas whilst they toured the store – brimming with home ware items, jewellery and accessories, as well as of course beauty products. The evening shined with many special guests such as Alex Hamdan, a Miami designer and Univision Despierta America’s fashion analyst who gave us a sneak peak of her own spring 2013 collection, and Maite Rivera, from Miami who introduced us to her exclusive Maite Makeup. Maite Makeup can only be found in Casa de Campo exclusively at Shine. The makeup line blends and engages the local culture with each product taking a Dominican name such as; Bachata Rose, Boca Chica and Senorita. This makeup is made of high-end minerals, which helps create soft subtle cheeks, eyes and lips, and is also a environmentally friendly. With makeup like this, there is no excuse not to wear it!
“When thinking of what business would go great with this community we thought of a concept store. Fusing Consuelo’s expertise in the fashion and beauty world and mine in the interior design world, combining these two great ideas would create something spectacular, and we did it. When choosing a location, I have a special place in my heart for Altos de Chavón. It is a place that encompasses culture and art that I truely appreciate. I would not have chosen any other place.”

— Yovanka Saladin, co-owner at Shine “concept” store

Let’s face it, after a long, stressful day all women want one thing: they want a little bit of pampering and a little bit of unwinding. In this chic, stylish and Miami-like scene, Shine definitely knows how to pamper its clients. I personally went in as a customer, after the inauguration – knowing that I cannot recommend something without trying it myself. I was definitely in for a treat. I was immediately greeted at the door and taken into the beauty salon. With so many great hair treatment options I decided to try the Moroccan Oil products, which is known to deliver extra shine and softness. My hair was washed in this 360 station, which included a much needed head massage after a long day of work. The service at Shine made me feel extremely special and comfortable, and by the end of my hair therapy, my hair was shining, I couldn’t wait to run out the door and show it off, absolutely no “Carribbean Frizz”. I also got a manicure, in which my nails ended with an apple red Essie color, a line that Shine also carries. Another nice addition to Shine is the “gelato” bar by Cinco Gelato y Caffé, who based in La Romana create their own delicious & different artisanal ice cream, click here to read our review of Cinco.  As a beauty-world junkie, I was very impressed by what Shine has to offer, and every women out there needs to come experience this for themselves! We all deserve to SHINE! The following photos were taken during the inauguration of Shine in Altos de Chavón on Saturday December 8th 2012:
