On July 21st, WAO Galería & Centro Cultural will showcase the artwork of Carlos Alvarez Las Heras. The exhibition’s title, “Bachata de Humo y Flores,” draws inspiration from the bachata, serving as a unifying element in these artworks, which are divided into two categories: night and day, or, as the title suggests, smoke and flowers.

The exhibition includes 15 artworks created while greatly influenced by the Dominican Republic. Some of the pieces were made in the Caribbean country itself.

The exhibition’s narrative employs a refined formal language distinguished by exquisite artistry and striking juxtapositions. Through the skillful implementation of these elements, the artist delves into a plethora of subjects, ranging from the ordinary to profound portrayals of psychological intricacy.

Visitors are invited to explore themes such as the intricate relationship between humankind and nature, freedom, and the consequences of indulgence, all through the artist’s distinctive and remarkable perspective.

The exhibition will be open from July 21st to August 21st, 2023. The gallery’s opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Sundays and Tuesdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed on Mondays.

The Patronato Benéfico Oriental, Inc. (PBO) continues to support sustainable social impact initiatives to promote culture. As part of these efforts, they have complemented their programs with the initiatives of WAO Chavón, which include the WAO Innovation HUB, WAO Galería & Centro Cultural, and the Altos de Chavón Regional Archaeological Museum in Altos de Chavón.

The proceeds from the various projects and activities are directed towards our social programs, allowing us to replicate these initiatives in vulnerable communities we serve as part of PBO’s community empowerment programs. These efforts promote values aligning with their mission, such as respect, solidarity, integrity, and equal opportunities.
