On June 14, WAO Galería & Centro Cultural will proudly unveil Un Minuto con Angeles (A Minute with Angels), a solo exhibition by emerging artist Angela Pérez. Hailing from La Romana and an Escuela Hogar del Niño graduate, Pérez is a young woman with cerebral palsy who has defied limitations to carve her path in the art world.
Un Minuto con Angeles is an abstract odyssey into Pérez’s inner world. Here, she sheds the constraints of figurative art, which depicts recognizable forms and instead embraces a “pure” artistic language to express her emotions. This inaugural exhibition is a retrospective showcasing Pérez’s creative evolution through wear, dragging, and pouring techniques.
Art therapy, a program empowering children with cerebral palsy to enhance self-expression and creativity, has been instrumental in Pérez’s artistic development. The resulting exhibition features 23 captivating pieces, a testament to the power of perseverance.
Witness Pérez’s journey from June 14 to 26 at the WAO Galería & Centro Cultural’s main hall, open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. The gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
WAO Gallery is part of the Patronato Benéfico Oriental, Inc. (PBO) ‘s ongoing commitment to sustainable social impact endeavors, aiming to promote cultural enrichment within the community.
Proceeds from the exhibition and associated activities will support the PBO’s social programs, which empower vulnerable communities and foster values of respect, solidarity, integrity, and equal opportunity.

About the Artist:
Angela Villafaña Pérez was born on September 25, 1995, in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Part of the Hogar del Niño since birth, Pérez received education, nutrition, and medical care there. The Hogar del Niño became her refuge, extended family, and home. Within these nurturing walls, she received the tools needed to unlock her artistic potential.
Despite facing the challenges of cerebral palsy, Pérez has overcome obstacles and made her mark on the art world, thanks partly to the unwavering support of her mentor and guide, art teacher Jeannette Questel.
