Last Friday, January 26, a gathering of women convened at WAO Gallery & Cultural Center for an event benefiting the Patronato Benéfico Oriental. The venue served as the backdrop for ‘Macramé for a Dream,’ a unique and innovative workshop where participants crafted decorative wall hangings using the art of macramé over a three-hour session.

Under the guidance of instructor Gilda Strano, whose expertise spans a decade in Venezuela and is renowned for her clothing line “Tullé,” participants achieved a remarkable level of mastery. Strano, now residing in the Dominican Republic, operates a successful decoration enterprise on the island. Her signature Boho Chic style graces hotels, restaurants, and residences, while she also conducts art workshops across the country as recreational pursuits.

Macramé, a technique reliant on knot-based textiles, beckons creativity to inspire stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces. ‘Macramé for a Dream’ isn’t just a crafting session; it’s a wellness activity with therapeutic properties. Through the manipulation of knots, participants find tranquility as their hands weave intricate designs. As the rhythm of creation sets in, minds quiet, heart rates lower, and a sense of calm pervades the atmosphere—a phenomenon witnessed by all who participated in this exquisite workshop.

For attendees, ‘Macramé for a Dream’ transcended the ordinary, offering a blend of artistry and philanthropy. Each knot tied symbolized a skill mastered and a step towards supporting the Patronato Benéfico Oriental’s noble endeavors. Through creativity, camaraderie, and compassion, the event illuminated the transformative power of community engagement, leaving a lasting impression on all present.
