Great news my friends, Tropical Storm Chantal, who less than 12 hours ago was threatening to hit the Dominican Republic with near hurricane force winds of approximately 70mph around about now – is no longer a real threat to the Dominican Republic.
So where has she gone?
The center of Tropical Storm Chantal is currently located approximately 140 miles south of Santo Domingo, maximum sustained winds have now dropped to just 45mph (a “low end” tropical storm) and she is moving in a west-north-west direction.
On this new path, Tropical Storm Chantal is predicted to weaken as she crosses the south of Haiti, becoming a tropical depression before she crosses Cuba and moves further north towards the US.
In summary: Bye bye Tropical Storm Chantal!
So what is the weather forecast now?
Although the center of Tropical Storm Chantal is to the south of the Dominican Republic right now, the cloudy outer edge is reaching us – which is why it is currently overcast… with the odd rumble of thunder.
The south coast of the Dominican Republic (including Casa de Campo) is however, still under a tropical storm watch, and ONAMET (the Dominican weather service) is predicting a storm surge of up to 4 feet, as well as the possibility of “aguaceros” (downpours), electrical storms, as well as some high winds.
From where I’m sitting it looks like just a normal (if a little rainy) day… so back to the office we go – we have a lot of un-packing to do!
