Good news and bad news! Well the good news is that Tropical Depression Gabrielle has now been “downgraded” from a tropical storm, but the bad news is that after a westerly detour he is now headed north again – directly towards the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic.
So here is a quick update to keep you in the know about what is going on with unpredictable Gabrielle!
Tropical Depression Gabrielle – the facts
• Tropical Depression Gabrielle is now centered to the south of Santo Domingo and La Romana
• Tropical Depression Gabrielle has maximum sustained winds of just 30mph
• Tropical Depression Gabrielle is moving in a north direction at approximately 9mph
Tropical Depression Gabrielle – the predictions
• Tropical Depression Gabrielle is not expected to develop back into a tropical storm or hurricane, on the contrary he could be downgraded further to a mere “area of low pressure” by this evening
• The center of Tropical Depression Gabrielle should reach the south coast of the Dominican Republic tonight / tomorrow (Friday) morning
Tropical Depression Gabrielle – how will he affect us?
Of course before a tropical depression, tropical storm or indeed a hurricane actually arrives it really is impossibly to predict what is going to happen, but according to weather.com and ONAMET, the Dominican weather …., the following is likely:
• Cloud cover across the Dominican Republic is expected to continue to increase
• Tropical Depression Gabrielle will cause electrical storms and heavy rains all across the Dominican Republic
• Heavy rain may cause flooding – be sure to prepare your villa with towels around any leaky windows and doors.
• High winds are not expected.
HOWEVER, as I have mentioned before, tropical cyclones are essentially unpredictable. While there can be no doubt that rain is on its way, what will actually happen we will have to wait and see…
