As part of the program to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Altos de Chavón amphitheater, a Tribute to Frank Sinatra was held on Saturday, October 23, commemorating the opening of the amphitheater starring, at that time, the late artist, and also included the same piano used in that concert!
The tribute was performed by the Big Band “Santo Domingo Pops” orchestra, made up of 16 musicians and under the production and musical direction of Amaury Sánchez, as well as the artists Máximo Martínez, Héctor Aníbal, Laura Rivera, and José Guillermo Cortines, with a repertoire of 22 songs of the Jazz Standard genre, making this a memorable night.
A well-deserved tribute to Frank Sinatra
The concert began with Héctor Anibal, who performed “I Get a Kick Out Of You” and “The Best Is Yet To Come”, followed by Max Martínez with “The way you look tonight” and “Fly Me To The Moon”. Later, José Guillermo added “Let’s Face The Music And The Dance” and “You Make Me Feel So Young”, to continue with Laura Rivera in “Saturday Night” and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me”.
The repertoire included recognized pieces such as “My Way”, “Come Fly With Me”, “When You Are Smiling” and “I Got You Under My Skin”, which were enjoyed and chanted by those present, closing with “New York, New York”, a song that united the four artists on stage and that José Guillermo happily reminisced that this was the song with which they closed a night of fun at Genesis Nightclub years ago.
After a great ovation, the public requested more, so the artists performed “My Way” for the second time on the night of this tribute made to celebrate and with the sponsorship of Brugal and Altice.
40 years of music
“We are honored to be able to celebrate the last 40 years of historic concerts and performances in our iconic and unique amphitheater. Over these four decades, the legendary Chavón Amphitheater has become an essential part of the Casa de Campo experience, and we are thrilled to commemorate and share all the artists, performers, and guests who have experienced the magic of the Amphitheater over the past few decades 40 years”.
Andrés Pichardo, President of Casa de Campo.
It should be noted that in addition to the successful concert “Sinatra, the tribute”, interesting activities will be carried out within the framework of this anniversary, including the exhibition “40 laps around the sun”, from October 21 to November 21 in the Art Gallery, and the concert with Wilfrido Vargas at the Amphitheater on November 5, honoring who was the first Dominican to fill the amphitheater.
