On Friday the 23rd of November, 2012 the Hogar del Niño education and daycare center in La Romana celebrated the beautiful transformation of it’s “Zona Verde” facility, which over 2 weeks was completely re-painted and renovated at the hands of a group of volunteer artists – all graduates from the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design.
Located within the Hogar del Niño in La Romana, the “Zona Verde” or Green Area, is where the Hogar del Niño gives dozens of little ones the opportunity to develop their creative talents (outside of the classroom), with many extra-curricular activities such as; English, arts, crafts, music, theater and recycling among others – in a two level building, especially created for this purpose.
The repainting of the “Zona Verde” was led by Dominican artist, recent graduate of the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design and art teacher at the Hogar del Niño, Argenis Lebron, who along with 8 other painters also graduated of the school completely transformed the center, which before was a plain white building and has now come to resemble an enchanted forest – with bright green trees and brightly colored flowers and butterflies. Joining Argenis on the project was Modesto Santiago, Wali Vidal, Jesús De La Cruz, Ivan Ramón, Edward Salcedo, Hansel Morales and Alexis Valerio.
During the celebration the children of the Hogar del Niño as well as special guests from Casa de Campo enjoyed music and dancing, performed by the talented pupils of the school, including a song by Quennie Paniagua, as well as a very special visit – from a Transformer, completely created from recycled materials!
