On Friday March 27th you are cordially invited by the Fundación MIR on a tour of their 3 schools in La Romana.
The Fundación MIR is a non-profit organization which works to provide education to the children of the greater La Romana area, who are most in need. They run 3 schools that cater to the needs of more than 1,000 children; the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Tecnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) and the Primaria MIR (infants school).
On the occasion of the 30th Sugar Golf Tournament, one of the most important charity events in the Casa de Campo social calendar, the Fundación MIR has planned a tour of their 3 schools, and extends the invitation to all Casa de Campo villa owners, residents and visitors to the Casa de Campo resort. This is your opportunity to admire the progress of this worthy cause, which receives so much support year in year out from the Casa de Campo community.
Teeing off on hole #1, Teeth of the Dog
The annual Sugar golf tournament, headed by Alfy Fanjul, President and CEO of the Central Romana Corporation in La Romana will be played from the 25th to 28th of March on the Teeth of the Dog, the Links, Dye Fore and the La Romana Country Club golf courses, while evenings will be enjoyed at a number of private functions around the Casa de Campo resort, and as every year will be accompanied by the “MIR Bazaar”, a fabulous opportunity to shop and raise money for a great cause – the Fundación MIR.
With the Sugar Golf Tournament, the MIR Bazaar and the tour to the MIR schools we are getting closer to 4 days of complete fun!

The Sugar Golf Tournament is the Fundación MIR’s original fundraising event, from which Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Founder and President of the charity got the seed money to open the “Casa de Paz”, which has now become the internationally recognized foundation, today called the “Fundación MIR.”
Originally just a “normal” golf tournament, “The Sugar” was founded in 1984 by Alfy Fanjul and Don Creamer (pictured left), but when Alfy (Lian’s brother) won in 1990 he donated his winnings to Lian, thus transforming the Sugar golf tournament into a charity event for the Fundación MIR, and as such one of the most glamorous, exclusive and important events in the Casa de Campo social calendar.
Today, “The Sugar” now incorporates a golf component headed by Alfy, as well as a shooting component headed by one of Lian’s other brother’s Pepe, played in Casa de Campo at the the Casa de Campo Shooting Center and “Rancho Peligro” (click here for photos and to read more.)
