proyecto alegre batey la romanaThe Spirit of Christmas was, without doubt, very present during these past holidays, especially in hundreds of children’s hearts who were surprised by the youngsters of “Proyecto Alegre” with many toys and gifts last Sunday the 8th of January for 3 Kings Day at the “Batey Tacones”, located in the greater La Romana area. With a mission is to “create smiles”, the Proyecto Alegre team, is committed every year to work and give for those most in need. Every year this enthusiastic group of volunteers collect toys, clothes school supplies and other little necessities, donated by generous members of the La Romana and Casa de Campo communities each year.

It takes hours, days and weeks of preparation in advance to collect, package and prepare all the toys and gifts for the little ones. But the smiles, laughter and joy that greets the receival of each package makes all the hard work worthwhile!

proyecto alegre batey la romana Every January, over the weekend of 3 Kings Day, hundreds of little boys and girls who live in the “Batey Tacones” area of La Romana receive a gift. Typically this gift contains toys, a pencil, crayon, eraser, tooth brush, tooth paste, soap, notebook or any other article which they might need or that has been donated. However, “Proyecto Alegre” is not only about giving out toys and supplies….with a mission to “create smiles” the group focus on showing the little ones great time! How? This year, Proyecto Alegre set up numerous entertainment activities for the kids, with men on stilts, juggling and much more!

The Proyecto Alegre is made up of many youngsters from the La Romana and Casa de Campo communities, which is why in these photos you may see many familiar faces; such as students from the Abraham Lincoln School and the Art and Design School in Altos de Chavón, Enrique Seijas, whose father José Sejias is the Master Cigar blender from the Tabacalera de Garcia Cigar Factory, as well as various other volunteers, such Gladis Quiñones, who runs local restaurant “Andaluz” and events company “Eventos y Catering.”
