On Saturday, December 9th, the prestigious Elizabeth P. de Zeller Ballet Academy captivated the audience with its annual ballet performance at the Altos de Chavón amphitheater. Under the direction of Ivonne Zeller, daughter of the revered founder Elizabeth P. de Zeller, this year’s event was titled “The Twisted Nutcracker,” an innovative show that fused classical essence with a modern and creative touch.

The magical evening commenced at 8:00 p.m. with an amphitheater brimming with excited spectators eager to witness the brilliant execution of “The Twisted Nutcracker.” From princesses to mice, soldiers, and flower fairies, the stage came to life with a unique blend of pop and urban music. The highlight of the event was a breathtaking fireworks display that left the audience in awe.

Behind this stunning performance lies the hard work of 100 talented girls who dedicated five and a half months of rehearsals to perfect every detail of the presentation. Ivonne Zeller shared her inspiration for the show, stating that she wanted to offer a fresh, modern, and fun perspective on the classic Nutcracker tale.

“One day, as I sat in my rocking chair and prayed, ideas for a new, modern, and fun vision of the Nutcracker began to emerge. From that moment, I started looking for different music, and the choreography unfolded,” expressed Zeller.

The girls not only spectacularly embraced their roles but also let their personalities shine through. The director emphasized that this production is more than just a show; it is a “work of God”, she says. In this vein, the academy has supported the Hogar de Ancianos Padre Abreu for 55 years, contributing to fulfilling the needs of its residents.

“This is a work of God. That’s why we support the Hogar de Ancianos Padre Abreu . We have been supporting this elderly home for 55 years, striving every year to do our best to meet their needs,” added Ivonne Zeller.

Elizabeth P. de Zeller Ballet Academy is the heir to a cherished tradition initiated by the remembered Elizabeth P. de Zeller, affectionately known as Tía Eli. For over five decades, Tía Eli kept this tradition alive, and now, under the direction of her daughter Ivonne Zeller, the academy continues to be a testament to the commitment and passion of ballet students.
