Over the weekend, on Saturday the 17th of April the Farr 40 Pre World Trials took place out of the Marina Casa de Campo – which signalled the start of the eagerly anticipated Farr 40 regatta. (Articulo abajo en Español.)
The Farr 40 regatta officially encompasses 4 days of sailing races from Wednesday the 21st of April through to Saturday the 24th of April, however given the high calibre of this event many other VIP dinners, cocktails and parties will be taking place throughout the week in celebration.
Although most events are VIP invitation only, the Noche Dominicana, being held tomorrow the 20th of April from 7-11pm, on the Calle Barlovento of the Marina Casa de Campo is open to everybody! It will be a night of traditional Dominican celebration to welcome the sailors of the regatta and to celebrate the beginning of the Rolex Farr 40! The Casa de Campo Marina is ready for the most important international event celebrated in the Caribbean
Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010
With the Pre World trials, Casa de Campo Marina officially begins the Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010.
During the weekend races were took place from which the Estate Master, owned by Lisa & Martin Hill from Australia, ended up winning the first place, followed by Doug Douglass’ Goombay Smash on the second place and Jim Richardson’s Barking Mad on the third, both boats from the USA. There were a total of five races done in order to finish the pre world trials.
The other boats ended in the following order: Alessandro Barnaba’s Fiamma (ITA); Massimo Mezzaroma & Alberto Signorini’s Nerone (ITA); Alberto Rossi & Robert Strappati’s Enfant Terrible (ITA); Helmut & Evan Jahn’s Flash Gordon 6 (USA); Wolfang Schaefer’s Struntje Light (GER); Alex Roepers’ Plenty (USA) and Guido Belgiorno-Nettis’ Transfusion (AUS).
Once the race ended, the contestants and their crew went back to the Farr 40 Village, section of the Casa de Campo Marina dedicated to the regatta, for a cocktail where they enjoyed a pleasant moment and received the Pre World’s awards.
The Rolex Farr 40 World Championship 2010 will officially begin on Wednesday April 21st, with participants from USA, Australia, Germany and Italy, who have been at Casa de Campo, La Romana, since last week.
Present at the event is Geoff Stagg, owner of Stagg Yachts, Inc, manufacturers of the Farr 40 boats, and Gianfranco Fini, Casa de Campo Yacht Club’s commodore.
The regatta is being sponsored in the Dominican Republic by Casa de Campo, Land Rover, Grey Goose, Cervecería Nacional Dominicana, Grupo Alaska, Ritmo Platinum and American Express.
