La Romana, R.D.
Dear Friends,
The Patronato Benéfico Oriental – PBO is pleased to invite to our thirteenth “Hogar del Niño Weekend” from February 12th to the 14th, 2010.  Thanks to the contributions made last year and to the support that you always have offered us we have been able to continue growing and investing in the future of the most in need children of La Romana and bordering zones. This year we have directed our efforts and resources in improving the quality of education of our center, implementing new curriculums and setting up new classrooms to be able to offer the education they deserve.  We are committed with their future and now more than ever we need the important support from all of you.
This past August the “Hogar del Nino” school had its first bachelor graduation with a technical degree, and six of them were awarded with university scholarships due to their academic performance throughout the four years of high school.  We are making reality the dreams of many children and young people who would not have the opportunity to be productive beings of our society.  Join our efforts, come visit us and be part of the change that thanks to you we are doing in our community.
At the Social Diagnostic Center, this year we have invested in the purchase of a Magnetic Resonance (MRI) which will be installed among the other equipments in a new center designed specifically for the “Social Diagnostic Center” to be completed at the end of 2010, becoming one of the most modern of the country. The center will continue offering services not only to those who can afford it but mainly to those who cannot. This year thanks to our Breast Cancer Prevention program 687 women of limited resources were evaluated.
The fixed expenses of the “Hogar del Niño” and Patronato Benéfico Oriental (PBO) surpass the amount of US$100,000.00 monthly, of which over 90% is reflected directly in the more than 8,000 children and 500 men and women that through our different programs we benefit annually.
We want to thank beforehand all of our sponsors, donors and volunteers whom every year make the “Hogar del Niño Weekend” the most entertaining and complete weekend in Casa de Campo and also invite you to be an active part of the Hogar del Niño’s family and together make our children’s dream come true.
Sincerely,
Xiomara Menéndez de Matos

Here is the same letter, in Spanish.

Atentamente,

Xiomara Menéndez de Matos
