the marina casa de campo, casa de campo living

Whilst surfing the web recently I came across a blog ‘Salty State of Mind’ raving about how wonderful the Marina Casa de Campo is and more specifically how fantastic the Marina’s services for sailors are.

In his blog, Captain Don Montgomery, tells the story of his arrival into the Marina Casa de Campo and how the staff went above and beyond the call of duty to look after him and his Admiral Lana Nelson.

Here is a quick summary of their experience:

  • Upon arrival they were met by a dingy 2 (nautical?) miles out to sea to assist with their approach and dock lines, which was later joined by a second dingy to further assist them as Don Montgomery had an injured hand.
  • They had a blissfully uncomplicated clearance as Immigration, Customs, Navy and Agriculture arrived at their dock to officially authorize their arrival.
  • They were personally greeted by Harbor Master, Frank Castillo, who the next day brought them breakfast to their boat and took them to La Romana to have the injured hand taken care of.
  • AND they were here at the same time as the Rolex Farr 40 regatta and so sailed right by the race in action! Exciting! Not to mention the free food, beer and Grey Goose vodka they were able to enjoy in the Rolex Farr 40 village after the race!

Here is a quote directly from the blog – praise for Frank Castillo and his team for their excellent service:

Frank manages this marina with the philosophy of customer service as the main principle. It doesn’t matter if you are on a multi million dollar yacht or a 32 foot sailboat everyone deserves equal treatment with the same great service. The staff is equally satisfied with his leadership. Frank is retired from the US Navy and brings a strong ability to lead and guide these young men and women who are employed by Casa de Campo. He is fair and promotes integrity amongst the staff. We spent some time chatting with a couple of the employees as they drove us all over the complex in golf carts and they referred to Frank as their “hero”and it shows in the attitudes and the service. Frank will bend over backwards to make sure each of his guests are delighted and satisfied with the service provided at not only the marina but the entire stay in the DR.

Whilst I have always thought the Marina Casa de Campo is simply wonderful, my opinion is based mainly on the atmosphere, it’s beauty, the restaurants and of course the shops – how fantastic to hear such a great report on something most of us would never even think about!

THANK YOU to Captain Don Montgomery for allowing us to quote his blog, to read about the rest of his adventures, click here.
