Last Friday the 6th of January, otherwise known as “3 Kings Day” or “Días de los reyes magos” in the Dominican Republic, ladies bearing gifts of milk and cereals turned out to the celebrate the 1st Café de la Leche of the new year (2012) at the Casa de Campo villa of hostess, Anna Maria Paniagua.

For the members of the Casa de Campo community, there was no better way to celebrate this magical occasion, the last day of the Christmas Season, than with the first of 12 Café de la Leche celebrations to be enjoyed this coming year. “3 Kings Day” or the “Epiphany” is traditionally considered a feast day, as well as a day to exchange gifts – a tradition which the ladies in attendance at the Café de la Leche celebrated with generosity; with the donation of many cans of dried milk for the Hogar del Niño, and with enthusiasm; with the enjoyment of the delicious buffet and drinks.

As elegant hostess of this month’s Café de la Leche event, Anna Marie Paniagua, who has generously hosted the 1st event of the year for many years, was thrilled to welcome more than 80 Casa de Campo villa owners, residents and visitors, including many Café de la Leche “regulars” as well as a number of new faces, including Birgit Mitchell, from Germany, who has just moved to Casa de Campo part-time from Martha’s Vineyard and Simone, the new 4th grade teacher at the Abraham Lincoln School.
The Cafe de la Leche is a monthly charity event, which started in 2001 to gather milk for the more than 200 babies cared for daily at the Hogar del Niño. Click here to read about the history of the Café de la Leche!
