Blessed with the most beautiful sunny weather and the clearest starry night, the Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life, which raises funds to support the everyday running of the Fundación MIR’s 3 schools in La Romana – was simply splendid. And with a BIG increase in participation over last year – it was without a doubt, a resounding success!

A truly fun-filled event, the Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life entertained Casa de Campo villa owners, residents and visitors with a tennis tournament and a golf tournament followed by a magical evening at Minitas Beach, where the dinner-dance was celebrated.

Early on Saturday morning, the first activity of the Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life got underway with a sprightly group of enthusiastic tennis players battling it out at the La Terraza Tennis Club – all eager to be crowned the 2012 Fundación MIR Tennis Champion!
The Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life golf tournament started promptly at 1pm on Saturday afternoon with Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Founder and President of the Fundación MIR in attendance to wave off the more than 100 philanthropic golfers as they set off around the La Romana Country Club Golf course.
Following a fun-filled day of tennis and golf tournaments Casa de Campo villa owners, friends, family and friends came together at Casa de Campo’s Minitas Beach for the evening celebration, enjoying a delicious dinner under the stars and dancing the night away in the sand.

In the midst of the dinner-gala, celebrated at Minitas Beach, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Founder and President of the Fundación MIR addressed the more than 450 guests, joined by her daughter Lyanne Azqueta, Executive Director of the Fundación MIR and her brother Alfy Fanjul, to welcome and thank everyone in various languages – including Italian, which everyone was rather impressed and surprised about! Following which a group of children, studying at the Fundación MIR schools said a very personal and heartfelt thank you themselves – with a beautiful performance from Rosalyn who sang “Brindis” by Soledad Pastorutti.

Part of the dinner-dance event was the prize-giving ceremony – when the victorious winners of the golf and tennis tournaments took to the stage to receive their trophies!

The Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life: DJ Gringo After – Party
For the last 3 years, both the Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life and the Fundación MIR Magical Splendor for Life events have ended on a high with upbeat Latin, Disco and Dance music with the legendary DJ Gringo from Miami.

The Fundación MIR is a non-profit organization which works to provide education to the children of the greater La Romana area, who are most in need. They run 3 schools; the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Tecnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) and the Primaria MIR (infants school).
