The attendance at the 2012 Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life event was excellent – with more people than ever before supporting the Fundación MIR with their presence and their wallets throughout the entire event – from the tennis and golf tournaments to the dinner-gala at Minitas Beach and even at the After-Party with DJ Gringo. And the result was a great time for all involved and an even better future for all the children educated at the Fundación MIR schools in La Romana!
The dinner-dance at Minitas Beach was the finale of the annual Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life event, celebrated this past Saturday the 11th of August 2012 which also included tennis and golf tournaments.

The glamorous guests, amongst them Alfy Fanjul and his beautiful wife Raysa, were welcomed to Minitas Beach along a romantic candle-lit pathway which ended at the “Mysterious Tiffany Wall”, where guests were able to contribute even more to the cause (US$300 per blue box) – in exchange for a stunning (and surprise) piece of Tiffany jewelry!

“I personally buy a few boxes, as it is always nice to know that you are participating in a great cause and you are guaranteed a prize!”

Enjoying Ron Atlantico on Minitas Beach, Casa de Campo
Newly bejeweled in Tiffany, guests then made their way to the Coco Mar bar, where they enjoyed Ron Atlantico cocktails generously donated by one of the event’s sponsors Ron Atlantico, a high-end rum brand created by Aleco Azqueta, son of Lian Fanjul de Azqueta and Norberto Azqueta.
“For Ralph and I, it was certainly worth travelling from Rhode Island to participate in the Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life event – Ralph took part in the golf tournament and in the evening we both had a wonderful time. We loved the ambiance, the food was delicious, the music was very lively and we had a great time with lots of different and interesting people.
We support the Fundación MIR because we believe in caring for the well-being of children and because I admire and respect Lian Azqueta de Fanjul.”

On stage during the MIR Family Weekend for Life event at Minitas Beach
All too soon cocktail hour was over and we were shown to our seats to indulge on a delicious buffet dinner catered once again by the expert chefs of the Beach Club by Le Cirque. During dinner, our hostesses Lian Fanjul de Azqueta and Lyanne Azqueta took to the stage, joined by Lian’s brother Alfy Fanjul to thank and welcome everyone – in English and Spanish and to everyone’s great surprise – Lyanne even gave a speech in rather fluent Italian!
With the help of Mistress of Ceremonies, Dominican TV host Pamela Sued, a group of children, both pupils and graduates of the Fundación MIR schools were welcomed onto the stage – a shining example of everything the MIR stands for; using education to combat poverty and make a change for the better. As well as an eloquent speech of gratitude from a recent graduate of the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), another pupil and raising star, Rosalyn (pictured right with Pamela Sued) sang “Brindis” by Soledad Pastorutti. Following which Pamela Sued led the raffle and announced the winners of the golf and tennis tournaments.
“I loved the party. The food was excellent and the music fantastic.
I always try to participate because I believe that the Fundación MIR is working for a great cause – education is definitely the solution to build a better tomorrow.”
— Krystyna Winn, Casa de Campo villa owner
The wonderful event and party came to a close in a whirl of music, dancing and laughter – we first enjoyed live music and lots of lively merengue dancing with Coralis from Dos en la via and ended with the tunes of DJ Gringo, when we were joined by even more friends and guests taking part in the “After-Party.”
Many congratulations to the Fundación MIR!
