The Casa de Campo tennis community came together in fine style last Sunday, the 14th of March to enjoy one of the finest matches ever played here. The Fifth Annual McDaniel Teaching Pro’s Tournament final round was played at the LRCC before a huge and enthusiastic crowd of supporters and friends.
The final was a classic match between the reigning champion Francisco Conception from LRCC and Pedro Nolasco, the rising star from La Terraza. Both players exhibited tremendous talent, desire and sportsmanship as they battled for the victory through three sets, which included a dramatic tie breaker to determine the winner of set one which went to Francisco. Pedro rallied back in set two as the crowd delighted in his game and athleticism. There were many long, exciting points played through the entire match . Victory came to Pedro in set 3 as Francisco, weary from a long 3 set semi final round, exhibited fatigue and some frustration at Pedro’s ability to defend against any attack strategy offered.
The Tournament has become the premier event for the tennis community. This year 65 sponsors raised a record $1,200,000 pesos which will be used exclusively for scholarships for 17 ball boys, English classes for the players and ballboys, and purses for the tournament.
This years Honorary Chairman was the Abrams Family – Herbert and Mildred Abrams are the most senior members of our tennis community.
