This post is also available in: Spanish

rdfw2The 1st Dominican Republic Fashion Week took place, from the 2nd to the 6th of June at the Sans Souci Port in Santo Domingo, organised by Tita Hasbún, Jorge Diep y Alex Macías.  Taking part were 37 Dominican designers, 7 international designers from Mexico, Argentina and Spain, as well as 10 new designers, launching their first collections. The Sans Souci Port  was the chosen location for this glamourous event and was the perfect setting, with its sleek, modern fashion mall, 3 bars and 3 restaurants.

Having become the journalistic celebrities of Casa de Campo, we are now important enough to be able to send our very own reporter to cover the event (and in VIP), so here is her personal experience of what was a very memorable experience.

rdfw1Last Saturday night, when I arrived to Sans Souci’s new terminal, I felt like I had just set down in a private jet and was strolling out into downtown New York, it was full with slim, beautiful models, plenty of model wanna-be’s, as well as a members of the public all well dressed and eager to enjoy the event. The Sans Souci terminal was the perfect choice for this event, it looked contemporary, clean, fashionable and utterly beautiful.

Before the show I took my time to walk around, to enjoy the entire setting and appreciate all the Sans Souci terminal and the event had to offer. On my way to the shops I passed through a car showroom with luxury cars and SUVs being touted by stunning male models, but I could not be tempted – I was on a mission, for me the day was all about beautiful clothes! The mall, which was where they were selling

samples straight from the runway, was packed with other eager shoppers all desperate to get their hands on the beautiful, one of a kind clothes items.

Exhausted from all the shopping, I set out in search of a cheeky drink and found myself on a charming open terrace with both a river and an ocean view, where the Bossa Nova Jazz band were playing and hundreds of people were relaxing, enjoying the music, cocktails and a bite to eat in one of the bars and restaurants there; Cane, Hard Rock Café, Barcelo’s Bar, Aka, among others, all offering a wide variety drinks, cocktails and a food.

rdfw7pm was SHOWTIME! I felt like a celebrity swanning into the VIP section and sitting in one of the leather seats in the middle of the spectacular U-shaped runway, whilst others were taking their seats on benches around the outside. I was in utter awe of the show, there was so many a dazzling collections by great Dominican Designers such as Arcadio Diaz, Andres Aquino, and the Gran finale – an international guest, the famous Spanish designer Custo Barcelona! Magnificent! There was so much to take in; different textures, styles and colors, primarily orange, purple, fuchsia, off -white, brown and of course the timeless fashion of white and black! Models with bright and colorful make-up strutted gracefully down the runway, showing off the beautifully tailored and clean lines of the so-called “New Blood” leaving us with a good taste of what to expect of DR Fashion Week 2010!
