The Casa de Campo Polo team - victorious in the USA!

Last Saturday the 5th of June the Casa de Campo Polo club, whilst many in Casa de Campo were enjoying the sun, some golf and the MAXIM models during the Dewars 12 Golf Invitational, were busy representing Casa de Campo and the DR in a fierce start-of-season polo match. Here Casa de Campo Polo Club’s Director, Calixto Garcia-Velez talks about this exciting match:

The Newport Polo Club as part of their International Series graciously invited a team from the Casa de Campo Polo Club to represent the Dominican Republic in a USA vs Dominican Republic match to inaugurate their season. The match was played under very wet conditions as the morning of the match the field received 2 1/2 inches of rain in just three hours! However due to the hard work of the Newport Polo Club staff the field was made ready to play. Nevertheless in a very competitive and close match the Dominican Casa de Campo team triumphed in overtime! The team captained by Leo Matos and comprised of Enrique Bonetti, Rafael Perez Diez and Tony Rivera who was the man of the match, displayed great team work and shot-making abilities which resulted in the defeat of a very strong and determined USA Team! It is important to note that there was a large turnout by the Dominican community based in the Newport area that all came out to cheer on their home team as well as providing live radio feeds during the match with me, team coach Calixto Garcia-Velez, Casa de Campo Polo Club’s director.
