Good news!! Nursing care specialists from the Baptist Health Hospital in South Florida are making regular visits to La Romana to train the 68 nurses in Central Romana’s new ‘Centro Médico’, health facility, ensuring that the nurses know the best practices to best utilise the new and modern health facilities now available to members of La Romana and Casa de Campo community.

The new “Centro Médico” was officially inaugurated by President Leonel Fernandez with Alfy Fanjul on the 21st of November 2011 and boasts three floors offering state of the art patient care with 84 beds in comfortable private and semi-private rooms as well as four surgical suites.

It was in June when Deborah Mulvihill, Corporate Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, as well as Yvonne Brookes, Director of Clinical Learning of the Baptist Health South Florida, visited the Centro Médico in Central Romana for the first time to interact with the nurses and make a general assessment of their strengths and weaknesses, after which they elaborated a report and consequently a proposal to develop the nurses skills with practical and theoretical lessons in order to further build on their strong background as professionals.
The training program led by Sally Bonet, Clinical Educator and Susana Flores, Clinical Learning Consultant of the Baptist Health Hospital, started in September with monthly classes to train the nurses on how to do general assessments on the human body, basic CPR, intensive care, attend patients with cardiac problems, among other important tasks.

According to Deborah Mulvihill, their objective is to reinforce their knowledge and practices now that they are working with fantastic cutting edge technology in the ‘Centro Médico’ – a fact which will definitely lead to the center’s second objective; let the patients know that they will receive the best nursing care in the Dominican Republic!
