This year, among the guests, along with Jean Paul Gaultier, the renowned French designer, is also The School of Design of Altos de Chavón, which will present a collection entitled “Deconstrucción” (Deconstruction), a unique proposal prepared by graduates of the 31st promotion of Fashion Design, under the direction of graduate designer Julio Marcano.

“Deconstrucción” is based on the postmodernist movement, which began in literature and then influenced the art and design. In fashion, it aims to question the meaning and function of clothing to create a rupture and innovation, investing in a surreal aesthetics through the mix of textures, colors and proportions. Deconstruction is a vision and creative, versatile and nuanced philosophy. Nuances under which this project is governed. Trying to propose a logical and intelligent deconstruction, with the idea of creating pieces in controlled chaos, supported by the imbalance of cuts, overlay layers in apparent disorder, contrasts asymmetries and termination elements that support the concept.

The collection has two categories: Urban Chic & Cocktail/Evening-Wear. First category combines white and black, using fabrics like cotton, linen and other textures in synthetic fibers. In the second category, the palette is made up of shades of red, metallic shades and skin tones. Fabrics are silk crepe, organza, brocade and other new textures.

The creation will be presented on Thursday, October 22nd at 5pm to benefit the Hogar del Niño and Save the Children Dominicana, and with the sponsorship of Restaurante Belinda’s y Fossmarai.

It’s always amazing to see the creations of students from Altos de Chavón, and it’s even better to do it while we contribute with two good causes at once.
