Last Saturday the 22nd of October, the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design took part in the Dominicana Moda fashion event in Santo Domingo for the very first time! Showcasing fashion show “The Silk Road” (La Ruta de la Seda) created by the school’s 2011 graduating class, the event not only raised money for the Altos de Chavón Foundation and the Hogar del Niño, but was also an excellent display of Dominican fashion by these talented up and coming designers.
‘The Silk Road’ fashion show, first seen in Casa de Campo’s Cacique conference center is the combined work of the school’s 20 fashion students, who graduated with Fashion Design degrees from the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design in May of this year. The inspiration behind the collection was ‘The Silk Road’, an ancient trading route which lead from China to Europe connecting the East and the West and the result was a spectacular combination of patterns, stripes, bold colors and romantic silhouettes.

Also in the audience were a group of more than 40 Casa de Campo ladies with the Hogar del Niño, who had travelled by “Guagua” (bus) from Casa de Campo especially, in support of the Hogar del Niño (money from their ticket sales were donated to the charity) as well as of course in support of fashion and the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design. Following the fashion show, these ladies enjoyed a champagne cocktail in Louis Vuitton – photos of that coming soon!
