For the 2nd consecutive year, the Altos de Chavón Archaeological Museum celebrated its “Creative Workshop for the Community” in La Vega, Dominican Republic (located North of Santo Domingo), along with the “Acción Cultural Vegana” group (La Vega’s Cultural Action group) last Wednesday the 8th of August – when many little boys and girls in need spent a fun and dynamic day learning about their history and much more!
More than 100 boys and girls of different ages, from multiple areas of La Vega, enjoyed the opportunity of taking part in a fun and dynamic creative program with the aim of developing moral values, as well as their skills in each of these artistic workshops.
Focused on teaching many artistic techniques, a series of environmental and eco-cultural subjects related to Dominican identity were conducted – an excellent way of introducing little ones to the world of archaeology.
Some of the classes involved the study of human migration in its various cultures and ethnic groups that once lived on the Hispaniola island, as well as the arrival of colonizing countries, their exchanging methods, the carnaval identity, our music, traditions practiced by our ancestors, as well as “arte rupestre” involving petroglyphs and much more!

Apart from celebrating this educational program, the Altos de Chavon Archaeological Museum also offers interesting workshops for children as well as for school teachers. In order to develop this type of educational programs, the museum extends an invitation to many companies and individuals who can collaborate to promote cultural education in all parts of the Dominican Republic, especially in poor areas.
