Today, Thursday the 18th of April the 7th annual Fundación Ferries del Caribe Fishing Tournament begins.
As a way of continuing their efforts to provide a better life for many families living on the Dominican-Haitian border, the “Ferries del Caribe” Foundation hosts this annual event with the participation of numerous Puerto Rican and Dominican fisherman, who spend 2 days out at sea fishing for a great cause!
The activity will start tonight with registrations at the Casa de Campo Yacht Club from 5pm to 11pm, which will be accompanied by a cocktail for the fisherman and their guests – an occasion, which last year the Foundation used as an opportunity to introduce a group of adorable children from a Special Needs School, the foundation supports, as well as the Batey Isabela in the province of Barahona (near to the Dominican-Haitian border), where monies raised through the tournament has allowed the foundation to build concrete homes for more than 1,500 people.
The tournament will then begin with “lines in the water” at 8am on Friday morning, with the competitors fishing all day until approximately 5pm when the boats will return to the Marina Casa de Campo for the “weigh-in” – an activity which often attracts a crowd of spectators who gather at the dock (outside the Capitania del Puerto) to watch! Saturday, the second and final day of the tournament will see the participants at sea from 8am to 4pm, with the final “weigh-in” immediately afterwards.
The activity will end with a prize-giving dinner and ceremony at the Casa de Campo Yacht Club in the Marina Casa de Campo.

From Thursday 29th of March to Saturday 31st of March 2012, the best fishing boats and fishermen from both the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico competed in the 6th Annual “Ferries del Caribe Open Fishing Tournament” at the Marina Casa de Campo to raise money to benefit the “Ferries del Caribe Foundation.”
