The Procigar Festival, a celebration, vacation and journey of discovery for cigar enthusiasts, which takes in cigar factory tours, visits to the tabacco fields, golf and a little fun dominican culture (beaches and merengue) starts in Casa de Campo on Sunday February the 19th before heading off on an adventure around the Dominican Republic.
This year the event will begin with a welcome cocktail at the Victory Club in the Marina Casa de Campo. In previous years, the start of the Procigar festival was celebrated at the Casa Montecristo cigar shop and lounge in Altos de Chavón and was open to Casa de Campo residents; a fun opportunity for us to mix with the festivals guests and unite in a shared love of cigars. HOWEVER we do not yet know if non-festival guests (i.e Casa de Campo residents and villa owners) are invited – we are investigating, as soon as we know, we’ll let you know!

Following the welcome cocktail at the Victory Club, the Procigar festival guests will stroll back down the Paseo del Mar to the La Casita restaurant, where they will enjoy a delicious Mediterranean dinner, with a gorgeous view of the Marina Casa de Campo. Sorry folks, non-festival guests (us) are definitely not invited to this activity!
The next day, Procigar festival guests will have the opportunity it to explore Casa de Campo and surrounding areas. There is an Ecological Tour through the Parque Nacional Del Este at Padre Nuestro, a reservation area near Bayahibe, where you can see ingenious plant and animal species, as well as caves with some Taino carvings. For golfers, there is the Procigar golf tournament on the Dye Fore Golf Course near Altos de Chavón in Casa de Campo, which will tee off around midday and for those more interested in relaxing there is a catamaran ride to nearby beauty spots Palmilla and Saona island.
On their final day in Casa de Campo (Tuesday the 21st of January), the Procigar group will visit the Tabacalera de Garcia Cigar Factory, located just outside Casa de Campo. The Tabacalera de Garcia Cigar Factory, established in 1971, is the world’s largest hand-rolled cigar factory – a historical gem and an absolute must place to visit when in Casa de Campo. The Tabacalera de Garcia employs more than 4,000 people and is home to the makers of the Finest Dominican Cigars: Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann, Don Diego, Santa Damiana, VegaFina, and Onyx amongst others – on a tour of the Tabacalera de Garcia Cigar Factory you will see the proud handwork of the cigar industry’s most experienced craftsmen and women, working on some of the worlds leading cigars.

Following their stay in Casa de Campo, the cigar aficionados of the Procigar festival will journey into the heart of the Dominican Republic’s Cigar Country, Santiago de los Caballeros, about 160 miles (and a 4 hour drive) from La Romana, where they will enjoy a variety of activities, including cigar factory tours to General Cigar, Davidoff, Matasa, La Aurora and Tabaquisa, beer & rum factory tours, city tours, merengue lessons, seminars, sail on a catamaran along the north coast, play a round of golf or just relax in the tropical breezes of the Puerto Plata beach.
