casa de campo shootingDuring this year’s annual Casa de Campo Sugar Shooting Tournament we (Casa de Campo Living) we invited to photograph all of the various events involved and discovered that the Casa de Campo Shooting Center offers extensive and very impressive shooting facilities for even the most well travelled and experienced shooter. The Colombaire Pigeon Race event was an excellent example of this. The Colombaire Pigeon Race event took place over 2 days during the Casa de Campo Sugar Shooting Tournament 2012 (from April 25th – April 28th) at the Casa de Campo Shooting center.

casa de campo shootingSimilar to the “100 Pigeons” event (click here for photos), the Colombaire Pigeon Race, as the name suggests, involves live pigeons which rather than being released randomly out of boxes, are literally thrown into the air by hand. Again similar to the “100 Pigeons” event the pigeon must be shot down within a certain area for the bird to count, however if the bird flys towards the spectators the bird is classified “no bird” and cannot be shot at – for obvious safety reasons. Each shooter taking part in the Colombaire Pigeon Race shot 20 birds, which were released 1 at a time, 10 in a row.
The winner of the Colombaire Pigeon Race 2012 was: • Chris Meigher (beating Alexander Auersperg, who has been the reigning champion of this event since 2008)
