On Saturday, August 5th, the La Romana Country Club golf course in Casa de Campo was full of life, with over 100 players participating in the Fundación MIR “Golf for Education” tournament. This tournament has been a tradition for more than 10 years and thanks to the generous participation from the golfing community, the more than 2,000 children enrolled in MIR schools will be able to continue with their education.
Upon arrival, the players were greeted by the staff of the Fundación MIR, who following all health and safety protocols, handed them this year’s goody bag. Then, they all had the opportunity to practice their swings and putts before starting the tournament.
The Fundación MIR “Golf for Education” Tournament was played “Scramble” style, with teams working together to obtain the lowest score on each hole together. Each teammate hits a drive and then the best of the four balls is then played. The teamwork style of scramble tournaments keeps the game fun and more community-focused than individual score driven. It is the perfect style of tournament for fundraisers, keeping the energy all about teamwork and the community!
“Once again, thank you very much for helping us. We appreciate having shared your time in such a noble cause and in turn we want to thank you on behalf of all the children of Fundación MIR and their families, for your participation and your generous collaboration in the event” Golf for Education “. We value the willingness and support provided, as well as the solidarity that was shown towards these families.” – Alfonso ‘Alfy’ Fanjul and Alvaro Silva.
