The wise Chinese philosopher Lao Tse, founder of Taoism, once said “the soft and the pliable will defeat the hard and strong” and this is exactly what Tai-Chi teaches you to do. This martial art teaches that you do not meet brute force with brute force, but rather meet it with softness and follow its motion while remaining in physical contact until the incoming force of attack exhausts itself or can be safely redirected.

This art is not only a noble form of self-defense but also really good for your health as it helps you control your balance, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, as well as stress and anxiety levels. It has even been proved that it has helped patients recovering from multiple sclerosis, chronic strokes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart attacks and even reduces the severity of diabetes! And the truth is that Tai-Chi burns more calories than high impact sports such as surfing and skiing.
It seems the time has come to connect with the Jet Li inside all of us and try this new and exciting martial art, which will be available at the Casa de Campo Spa this Thursday the 15th of August at 7am for the price of US$8.00 + tax – at the labyrinth. The class will be taught by a professional master.
There will also be a demo-class of Cardio Tae-boxing (how cool is that?) at 6:30pm on Wednesday the 14th of August in the Gym with the intention of then making it a regular class!
