Summer Camp at the Orfanato Niños de Cristo

This year the the children of the ‘Orfanato Niños y Niñas de Cristo’ (orphanage) in La Romana enjoyed their first ever summer camp with 5 volunteers from the United States who shared 3 unforgettable weeks with the children, exploring a variety of exciting and different activities!

Maile Miller, Katie Mckitterick, Leslie Small, Chanel Fischetti and Nicole Struck were the 5 of the fantastic young volunteers who took part in the fabulous summer camp adventure.

During the summer camp, the children visited the Archeological museum in Altos de Chavón, the ‘Cuevas de las Maravillas’ (the marvelous caves in) La Romana, enjoyed arts and crafts classes, learnt English, did sports, took part in a talent show, designed T-Shirts and much more!

All the materials and money needed to pay for all the Summer Camp activities were donated by the generous group of American volunteers, who took part in a fundraising event to raise the money before their visit.

When it was time for the volunteers to leave, having formed an unbreakable bond and great friendship, it was very difficult for both the children and the volunteers.

The Orfanato Niños de Cristo in La Romana, is a safe-haven, a paradise and a home for the more than 150 orphans who live there. The Orfanato, the other children and the caring people who work there are their friends, carers and their family and despite all that these children have already endured they are happy and loved – thanks to the Orfanato.
