The summer issue of CasaLife Magazine has just arrived, hot off the press from Miami. Speaking of The Sporting Life, we get to know Calixto García-Vélez, Casa de Campo’s director of equestrian, also recently named as the managing director of sports for The Sporting Life – a role he was born for. An avid polo player, as well as golfer, tennis player, shooter and even fisherman, not only is Calixto García-Vélez the ultimate sportsman, but he actually grew up living The Sporting Life here in Casa de Campo. We also got the chance to talk to another interesting and up and coming character in the sporting arena, Willy Pumarol, a rising star of Dominican golf, who was the only Dominican professional golfer to make it into the final round of the DR Open played recently on the Teeth of the Dog. So philanthropic is our Casa de Campo community, that “giving back” could actually be considered as one of our favorite pastimes, and that is certainly reflected in this summer issue of CasaLife Magazine.
Starting with Art Chavón 2014 for the Altos de Chavón School of Design Scholarship Fund, as well as The School of Design’s annual fashion show, Estilo 2014, not to mention the star-studded inauguration of the new home for the boys of the Orafanato Niños de Cristo, the visit of James Brewster to the Hogar del Niño, the Adopt a Crib dinner, also for the Hogar del Niño, the 9th annual edition of the McDaniel Tennis Tournament, and last but not least the MIR Bazaar, as well as the opening of a new multi-use pavilion at the Fundación MIR. With all that there can be no doubt that giving is part of the essence of what being a “Casa de Camper” is all about.
