From the 9th to the 13th of July 2012, the Altos de Chavon Regional Museum of Archaeology celeberated its traditional summer camp named “Tu Historia en el Tiempo” (Your History in Time), where the little ones got to learn a lot about the history of the Dominican Republic through numerous fun activities and explorations programmed – however the museum is NOW permanently offering new “Creative workshops”!

Little boys and girls who participated in the summer camp, had the opportunity of enjoying this wonderful diverse and intensive program in which, each day, they were treated to fun activities which allowed them to learn about the culture in the Caribbean with the help of a wonderful collection of objects owned by the museum, guiding them on an interesting journey of myths, history, music, dance, food, living, customs, art and of course the environment.

The summer camp, with the aim of teaching the kids about their own background with the help of many archaeological explorations, drawing workshops, acting, ecology, history, exhibitions, also included a ceramic workshop in Altos de Chavón – a place where many artisians create wonderful figures like our ancestors once did – and they LOVED IT!

Likewise, these small archaeologists had the opportunity of exploring and studying very interesting aspects of nature, such as water, animals, trees, pottery and their relevance in our ancestors’ lives.

With so much enthusiasm showed by these little ones in addition to the many wonderful activities offered by anthropologist, Lenin Paulino, who has set the concepts for this summer camp for the last 12 years, the kids did great in all of these activities.

Good news!

Although the Summer Camp for the Altos de Chavon Regional Museum of Archaeology has come to an end, young boys and girls have the opportunity of signing up for the new “Creative workshops” which will be taking place throughout the whole year.

“These workshops are available on request, whether it is in the morning or afternoon, depending on the museum’s availability.

The Creative workshops offer a variety of permanent activities which will be taking place every day, where games will be used as a tool for learning.”
