Throughout the weekend, Casa de Campo residents and guests came out for the Polo Challenge 2016 Bronze Cup. For me, it was my first polo game as well as one of my first BIG events in Casa de Campo. One could feel the intensity and passion off the field as much viewing it on it.
Seeing the many visitors and vendors was a wonderful opportunity for me to meet people. A fashion show-esque atmosphere appeared throughout the crowd, and I viewed ladies decked in colorful resort wear and chic white ensembles, bringing a high standard of elegance and style to the event, as I’m told is always present for Polo here in Casa!
Cold champagne flowed throughout the VIP lounge, this year sponsored by Progreso, and provided a much needed refreshment on a warm afternoon. Seeing the horses and players gallop intensely across the field, vigorously competing, and outdoing any athleticism I could manage on a horse, certainly makes one thirsty. Indulging on light snacks and beverages, ladies and gentlemen socialized and watched the fast-paced game. Hogar del Niño provided activities for kids, allowing busy moms and dads to enjoy the game and relax with their friends as the young ones had a fun time painting and playing.
USA Ambassador James Brewster Jr. was seen at the polo match with his husband, Bob J. Satawake, visibly having a good time and enjoying the afternoon. Easy to do as commentators, Ebe Sievwright and Fernando Aratabrought, created a light and youthful mood with their many jokes throughout… “Star Wars” references and the idea to use helicopters, whose traffic was extraordinarily heavy that day, to transport players with their horses from one game to another brought in a lot of laughs.
In addition, some insight and educational information from Ebe and Fernando on the game made it possible for me as a first-timer to follow what was happening on the field. This isn’t your average hockey game from Russia, after all!
The event was also a good opportunity for the Orphanage and Fundación MIR to bring awareness to their organizations and projects. Plus, I got to try products from several of the vendors who were present. The Nespresso tent offered me cups of delicious coffee; while new cigar producer, Tabacalera Nolasco & Sons presented their first line of cigars, and after smoking one, I definitely recommend trying it! Azimut even displayed some of their luxurious yachts in catalogs and photos.
When all the winners were awarded and celebrated, DJ Korduroy enticed everyone to the dance floor with upbeat remixes.
Then, during the tradition of replacing of the divots I had a very Julia Roberts “Pretty Woman” feeling. Fancy!
