The children of the Fundación MIR schools in La Romana recently received a wonderful gift of new pair of sneakers donated by Nike, Alonzo Mourning, and Rhahime Bell.
Alonzo Mourning, a well-known retired NBA basketball player who once played for the Miami Heat (my NBA 2012 Champsionship team), has come a long way; from scoring points in the court to scoring children’s hearts. On December 5, 2012, Mourning donated tennis shoes to the children at the Fundación MIR, a non-profit organization that seeks to benefit the children in need in La Romana. Mourning, a familiar face in Casa de Campo, was so moved in one of his recent visits to the MIR foundation that he was inspired to do more for them. Thanks to the support of Nike, Rhahime Bell, and Mourning they were able to bring a smile to these children who now have a sparkling brand new pair of sneakers to play around in.
At the same time Rhahime Bell also donated new basketball hoops for the school – making the Fundación MIR a fertile playing ground for the basketball heros of the future!
If YOU would like to get involved and support the Fundación MIR, and their schools; the Primaria MIR (infants school), the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Tecnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) with more than 1,000 children in total – you too could make a donation OR save the date and join us for the Fundación MIR’s 22nd annual Magical Splendor For Life fundraising gala on Saturday January 19th, 2013 – click here for details!
Mourning took time out of his Casa de Campo vacation to visit the children of the Fundacion MIR in La Romana, visiting the MIR Esperanza boy’s school where he shared some of his best basketball tips and tricks with the Fundación MIR’s boys basketball team.
The Fundación MIR
The Fundación MIR is a non-profit organization which works to provide education to the children of the greater La Romana area, who are most in need. They run 3 schools; the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Tecnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) and the Primaria MIR (infants school).
