The third edition of The Sailfish Bowl 2023 fishing tournament was held at Marina Casa de Campo, with international fishermen from Puerto Rico, the United States, and the Dominican Republic participating. The tournament is considered an essential reference in sport fishing, with the technical support of renowned Puerto Rican Captain Paco Vela.
The tournament took place from February 9 to 11 and marked the pre-opening of the fishing season at the marina. The weather was favorable, and dozens of Sailfish and Blue Marlin were registered, along with busy catches of other species such as Dorado, Tuna, and Guatapaná.

The tournament was a competitive but fun event, emphasizing catch and release methods for billfish species. The SIZU boat, with a home port of Marina Cap Cana, won the Best Boat award with a total of 900 points, while the Best Individual Fisherman award went to Chip Sheehan from the USA with 450 points. The Second Highest Score boat was “Pícara” from Puerto Rico, and “Marlin Monroe” from the USA won third place.
The tournament also had categories for Outstanding Lady and Best Youth Fisherman, which Virginia Manning won on “Delta Down” and the Captain with the most releases, Miguel Tirado on “Sizu,” respectively. There were also awards for the highest-weight catches of Guatapaná, Dorado, and Tuna.
The event ended with an award ceremony at the Yacht Club of Marina Casa de Campo. The winners received their respective trophies, which were spectacular works of art evoking the Sailfish species along with prizes, including watches, fishing equipment, scooters, and personal items for the winners and boats.
