On Thursday July 4th the Altos de Chavón Cultural Center Foundation will open the exhibition “Convergencia” (convergence), with the participation of exhibiting artists: Fernando Tamburini, Grimaldy Polanco and Pery Jimenez at The Gallery in Altos de Chavón.

On Thursday July 4th from 7:30pm, the opening cocktail will be held at The Gallery – and you are cordially invited to join the celebration, for your first chance to view the artworks, meet the artists and enjoy a few cocktails amongst fellow Casa de Campo villa owners, residents and friends.

Following the opening the exhibition will be open until July 29th, 2013, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (closed Wednesdays).

Fernando Tamburini,  Grimaldy Polanco and Pery Jimenez are 3 talented artists who have exhibited their work in major national or international galleries and we are very interested to see their exhibit here in Altos de Chavón. Please see below to read more about the artists.

About the artists:

Fernando Tamburini: 

Born in Barahona, in 1961. Upon graduation from the School of Design Altos de Chavon, he left New York City, where he worked as a fashion designer and textiles. Between 1990-1994, he exhibited his works collectively in major galleries and museums in the United States, such as Jadite Gallery, The Paterson Museum in New Jersey and the Jeshiva University in New York. In 1995 he participated in the Artists in Residence program of the Altos de Chavón Cultural Center Foundation, following which he took over the running of the Altos de Chavón Gallery until late 1997.

Among his most important exhibitions in Santo Domingo was the “XX Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales” at the Modern Art Museum in 1995; “Arte-Objeto” at the Nouveau Foundation of  de Contemporary Art (1998); the “First International Engraving Meeting in Small Format” at the Nouveau Foundation of Contemporary Art in 1997; “Eight Faces”,  El Espacio Gallery in Santo Domingo; “De los sueños” at the Spanish Cultural Center; “Papier” at El espacio Gallery; “Sin Titulo” at the Guayasamín Foundation and the most recently exhibits at the art feria in New York; Agora Gallery in Miami and The Gallery at Altos de Chavón with two individual presentations and two with fellow artists Cataldi and Kikito.

Fernando Tamburini currently he has his studio in La Romana and sells his paintings at Eduardo’s Galleria.

Grimaldy Polanco:

Born in Puerto Plata. He studied different art disciplines at Parsons School of Designin New York, the Altos de Chavón School of Design in Casa de Campo, La Romana and at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

He has participated in numerous exhibitions of art and design in various countries, receiving more than a dozen awards and distinctions. His works present a metaphorical vision of the contours, constantly evaluating social-cultural concepts such as denaturation, the internal and external interconnection of everything, as well as the unlimited access to the interior of the human capacity to transform or be transformed.

Francisco Javier De Jesus Jiménez González (Pery Jiménez): 

Pery Jiménez studied Painting and Drawing at the Painting and Drawing School of Puerto Plata (1976-1978);  Arts Flyers at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (1978-1984), Visual Arts and Illustration at the Altos de Chavón School of Design (1985 -1987), as well as Illustration at the Parsons School of Design in New York city (1988).

He has presented his work at the Modern Art Gallery in Santo Domingo, Manhattan Community College, York College Library, New York, The Guerrilla Gallery of Thelma Hill, Brooklyn, N., and, at several editions of the National Visual Arts Biennial at the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo, as well as many other festivals and collective exhibitions.
