The annual Hogar del Niño fundraising weekend is always jam-packed with different fun activities; tournaments, prize givings, dinner and dancing! Last year the Hogar del Niño celebrated its 13th annual fundraising weekend in spectacular style with a ‘Carnaval’ theme! With the 2011 event just around the corner – here is a reminder of all the fun we had last year!
On Friday the 12th of February 2010, the Hogar del Niño Weekend festivities began with the a tour of the Hogar del Niño facility (day care and education centre, which provides, food, education, clothing, health, dental and so much more to more than 1,000 children every day – click here to read more), followed by a Homes and Gardens Tour around some of the most beautiful villas in Casa de Campo before the day ended with the grand final of the Hogar del Niño Polo Tournament. An exciting final was played between between Enrique Bonetti’s “Propagas Team” and Bobby Jimenez’s “La Pachanga” Team, in the end the Propagas team was victorious with a score of 11 – 7 anchored by a great defensive performance by their #4 player Anton Tejeda.
On Saturday the 13th of February 2010, the Hogar del Niño fundraising weekend continued with a tennis tournament at the La Terraza tennis club (Unfortunatly I have no photos of this) and a golf tournament played on the La Romana Country Club golf course. 190 golfers took part in the tournament, played in the form of a scramble.
On the evening of Saturday February the 13th 2010, following a busy day of golf and tennis the supporters of the Hogar del Niño gathered at the La Romana Country Club for the final activity and celebration of the weekend – the ‘cena bailable’ or the dinner-dance party! Last year, as you can see from the photos the party was in the theme of Carnaval (because the month of February in the Dominican Republic is the month of Carnaval – in some places celebrated with a Carnaval parade every Sunday), and there were dancers and models and a rather scary and fun ‘comparsa de carnaval’ all dressed in full carnaval outfits, who posed for photos and took part in a carnaval show and parade!
