On Saturday the 13th of August 2011, the Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life event was celebrated in Casa de campo with fun golf and tennis tournaments, followed by a wonderful celebratory dinner, dance and after party! Here we bring you a summary of all the fun!

On Thursday the 11th of August an intimate dinner party, which we affectionately refer to as the ‘pre-MIR’ was hosted by Manuel Machado in a stunning Casa de Campo villa in the Bahía Chavón neighborhood, close to the Marina Casa de Campo.
On Saturday the 13th of August the Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life event took place in Casa de Campo La Romana and the tennis tournament began bright and early at 9AM at the La Terraza Tennis Club in Casa de Campo, when a group of enthusiastic and philanthropic tennis players gathered and prepared to battle it out to be crowned the MIR tennis champion!
The Fundacion MIR Family Weekend for Life golf tournament began at 1pm shotgun, when the Fundación MIR’s golfing supporters teed off around the beautiful La Romana Country Club Golf Course and played a fun and only slightly competitive round of golf in the glorious sunshine.
Emilia and Jose “Pepe” Fanjul were honored with this award, in recognition of their special and incredibly generous contributions to the Fundación MIR. Together they have been hosting the ‘Cartier event’ every December at their Casa de Campo estate ‘Casa Grande.’ The Cartier event has been hosted by the Fanjul’s for the past 20 years and has raised over 1 million dollars for the MIR schools.
Following a fun-filled day of tennis and golf tournaments Casa de Campo villa owners, friends, family and friends came together at Casa de Campo’s Minitas beach for the evening celebration, enjoying a delicious dinner under the stars and dancing the night away in the sand
The Fundación MIR is a non-profit organization which works to provide education to the children of the greater La Romana area, who are most in need. They run 3 schools; the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Tecnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) and the Primaria MIR (infants school).
