Last Saturday the 10th of December, President of the Dominican Republic, Dr Leonel Fernandez inaugurated the 7th annual “Copa FUNGLODE” golf tournament in a ceremony celebrated at the La Romana Country Club in Casa de Campo.
President Leonel Fernandez, who is also the honorable president of the FUNGLODE (the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo or in English, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development) officially opened the tournament with the “saque de honor” (the putt of honor) alongside Eddy Martinez, president of the “Copa FUNGLODE” committee.

Also taking part in the ceremony with the President were, the Executive Director of GFDD, Marco Herrera, the Foreign Minister, Carlos Morales Troncoso, Minister of Sports, Jay Payano, Rosalba Morera, executive director of the COPA FUNGLODE, Carlos Arias, head coach of the tournament and Jose Hernandez, a member of the organizing committee, as well as Robinson Cano, star of the New York Yankees baseball team!
Following the inauguration the “Copa FUNGLODE” golf tournament was played on the La Romana Country Club and the Teeth of the Dog golf courses in Casa de Campo, with the participation of 175 players, including 4 women.

The “Copa FUNGLODE golf tournament is hosted annually to raise funds for activities, projects, research and publications provided by the Foundation to meet the objectives it set eight years ago, which are based on strengthening democracy and human development in the Dominican Republic.
