Now that the weather in Casa de Campo is sunny, hot and beautiful again – it’s easy to forget that this time last week the outer edges of Hurricane Irene blew through our community bringing high winds, heavy rain and some very big waves. Here we bring you some great photos of Casa de Campo’s most famous golf course, the “Teeth of the Dog” as a storm surge caused by Hurricane Irene sent huge waves, crashing up over tee boxes and into sand traps…

Teeth of the Dog, hole #8 during Hurricane Irene

The storm surge caused by Hurricane Irene brought large waves crashing over the rocks surrounding the green on the Teeth of the Dog’s hole number 8 and in the low lying areas waves actually flowed right onto the course. In this photo waves can be seen flowing across the rocks and right into the sand trap, causing a giant mass of foam.

Teeth of the Dog, hole #8: waves wash onto the fairway
Along the edge of hole #8 lies a calm pebble beach, which completely disappeared during Hurricane Irene. The sea level rose several feet completely flooding the beach and sending waves roaring up and across the fairway. In this photo you can see where the waves rolled across the gold course and created a knee-deep mass of foam.

Foam on the Teeth of the Dog
I couldn’t resist climbing into the foam mass on the Teeth of the Dog golf course! In this photo the foam is clearly not knee-deep as I just said – but it was in some areas, I just wasn’t stupid enough to climb in that deep!

Teeth of the Dog, hole #7
Waves crashed over the rocks surrounding the edge of the Teeth of the Dog’s hole number 7 and submerged the sand trap surrounding the green.

Ladies Teebox on the Teeth of the Dog, hole # 8
Waves washed debris onto the ladies teebox on the Teeth of the Dog and Leila (the family dog) found a number of crabs hiding there!

The ‘Teeth’ of the Teeth of the Dog during Hurricane Irene
Casa de Campo’s normally beautiful and serene coastline became rather wild as the centre Hurricane Irene passed to the North of the Dominican Republic. The sea foamed and roared and washed sand and debris onto the Teeth of the Dog golf course in Casa de Campo.

Naughty doggy!
Whilst I was out exploring and photographing the ‘storm surge’ caused by Hurricane Irene, the family dog, Leila joined me – enjoying playing in the foam and attacking unsuspecting crabs! Naughty doggy!

Back to normal: The Teeth of the Dog in Casa de Campo La Romana
Fortunately now that Hurricane Irene is long gone, Casa de Campo’s Teeth of the Dog has been restored to it’s former beautiful self – with no long lasting scars or signs of damage left over after Hurricane Irene.

Elsewhere in the Casa de Campo resort, there was very little damage caused by Hurricane Irene. We will soon be publishing more photos of the ‘damage’ – which for those of you who are not here and have therefore not been able to check on your Casa de Campo villas will no doubt bring you some relief…….as there really was very little damage!
