The PGA TOUR is coming to the Dominican Republic for the first time this week! The country has hosted the Web.com Tour here before and this year is making the transition to hosting the big leagues! The tournament kicks off Thursday, March 22nd and goes until Sunday, the 25th!
The tournament will be held at Corales Golf Club Punta Cana, an 18-hole par 72 course with six oceanside holes. The Web.com Tour Championship was held on this course back in 2016 and has been promoted to host a main PGA TOUR Championship. The Web.com Tour is for professional players who have not yet qualified to play in the PGA TOUR. During this Championship, we saw one of Casa de Campo’s favorites, Willy Pumarol, play and this year he has qualified to play in the PGA TOUR Corales Championship after winning five out of the five Canita Tour Tournaments he participated in. Congratulations Willy!
There will be a total of 132 professional players competing for the grand prize. Out of those players, five of them are from our very own island! We have the pleasure of cheering on professionals Willy Pumarol, Julio Santos, George Riley and amateurs Hiram Silfa and Rhadamés Peña!
The winner of this Championship will go home with 300 FedExCup points and a purse of $3million USD. Quite the reward! Good luck to all of the players, especially our men from the homefront! Tune into the Golf Channel Thursday-Friday 10:30AM-1:30PM, Saturday 2:00PM-5:00PM, and Sunday 2:30PM-5:00PM for this exciting Championship!
