ednita nazarioOn Valentine’s Day (February 14th 2012), after more than 4 years of absence, Puerto Rican singer Ednita Nazario returned to her Dominican fans at a completely sold out concert entitled “SOY” celebrated at the Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo! Ednita Nazario set an end to her world tour “SOY” in the Dominican Republic on the 14th of February 2012, to start the promotion of her new album “Desnuda” (available in stores since March the 26th) – and Casa de Campo Living was invited to the press conference held at the glamourous convention center in Jaragua Hotel where their new journalist (me, Paola Marte – also a HUGE “Ednita fan”) got to share and interact with the famous ‘Puerto Rican Diva’. ednita nazarioAnd finally here you are!! Ednita Nazario finally arrives to the Dominican Republic! What took you so long?? Finally here!!! It really wasn’t up to me, actually the Dominican Republic is one of my favourite places in the world! However I wasn’t invited to come..they (producers) waited too long, 4 years…(giggles) BUT we are finally here! Your new single is “Para El Peor Amante” (to the worst lover). How did you come across this song and what makes you select it as one of 12 songs included in your upcoming album? I received this song from my colaborates and it really caught my attention! Although it’s title might be quite eyecatching and it is a song that embodies indifference in the story, it has a message that I like a lot. And that is “although you made me suffer, I can get through this and don’t you dare think you’ve taken the best from me because this will make me much stronger and it will make you worse.” Tell us about your new album “Desnuda”  “Desnuda” has been the album that has taken me the longest to record. I recorded the first half of the album with Sebastian Krys, an extraordinary producer with whom I have worked with before and the second half was recorded with another person who I love and with whom I’ve been longing to work with; George Noriega, also great producer, and of course with my faithful colaborate, friend, angel and “musical husband”, Tommy Torres (well known latin artist and producer) – who is beside me at all times. Having made popular many of your songs since the start, different generations, including children love your music – but everyone also loves your personality..  How does Ednita Nazario develop such a strong and secure personality? (Giggles) I have three brothers and my mum used to be a very dynamic person, a woman who always had something to do… my mother had a wonderful voice and my dad as well! They used to be so joyful! They loved music and music was always present at home. In fact when my mother was cleaning the house, it was pretty much like having a concert, my dad and my mother used to sing and we (kids) used to act as choir members… my brothers played the guitar, I also play the guitar and basically we were all artists, the only one who decided to become one professionally was me, but we’ve always been used to being confident with what we express, we are open minded, we celebrate life and happiness quite closely and whenever I have time, I just feel like spending time with my family beacause they are such fun people! But coming back to personality, that is our nature, I was raised in that kind of environment with strong moral values, and since I was the only girl of four kids, I developed a certain strength and security to be able to “defend” myself. ednita nazario What motivates Ednita Nazario?    Love! Love, life and music! The power of being able to do something for people with what I do – I’ve always known that I have never done anything to deserve this God given talent and I always try to use it right, so that my music has a purpose… hoping that people can enjoy it, laugh, see themselves reflected in these different stories, cry… and it is something I’ve always loved doing with that one comittment of always doing my best. And since your music has helped many women in various circumstances… there happens to be a situation in the Dominican Republic and all parts of the world; domestic violence. What would you advice these women? How can we as a global society overcome this situation? As women, sisters, friends, neighbours, mothers… we all have the comittment to help one another, to help women develop self-esteem – especially during their childhood because it’s something that we have to start at an early age, as well as advicing them in order for them to have  the capacity to decide and recognize what is a healthy relationship between couples but above all, the need of making themselves be respected. I’m concerned about this situation, we have to think about the upcomming generations, these girls who have so many challenges to face in their lives. Women no longer stay in their homes, they have to work, motivate and educate themselves and I think that women should be better orientated on their rights, where they should ask for help withought being stigmatized by situations in which they fear the authorities might not support them. It is a cultural problem that we must overcome and we need to start in our homes, schools and neighbourhood. ednita nazario Now that you are finally here, what changes have you noticed since your last visit to the Dominican Republic? The Dominican Republic always surprises me! I’ve always believed that Dominicans are always committed to evolution and development. The Hispañola is a wonderful island and as I’ve been telling some friends, it feels so good to be here because being in the Dominican Republic, to me, is like being in my own country (Puerto Rico)! Actually the first place to which I travelled in my life when I was only a child,  was the Dominican Republic! So you may imagine how long I’ve been strongley attached to this wonderful country and I’m certainly impressed that its people always focuss on moving forward, pa’lante and I love it! Rumour has it that your new album “Desnuda” tour is starting soon. Will you be coming back to the Dominican Republic with this tour?  Of course! My producers were telling me that we cannot wait this long to come back – and it was not my fault!! We are definitely coming back with “Desnuda”, starting it in Puerto Rico at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum. We know you visited La Romana, especially Casa de Campo after it opened. What was it like, what do you remember about Casa de Campo?  I remember I didn’t want to leave!!! I wanted to stay at Casa de Campo because it was so beautiful!! The area where they chose to develop it, the environment… they treated me so good that I felt like a royal queen!! And I’ve always wanted to go back…I hope I can do so really soon! And you also know about Margarito (the Altos de Chavón donkey). What is that particular thing you like about him?  I am dying to meet Margarito!!! I already have fotos of him and I have seen videos and he seems to be so cute! I’ve been told he’s such a nice donkey! Will Ednita Nazario be performing at the Altos de Chavón amphitheatre anytime soon? Altos de Chavón is one of my biggest dreams – if I don’t have the opportunity to sing in the amphitheatre, I’d definitely love to go and enjoy a concert there because its beautiful! I’ve had many friends who have been torturing me because they’ve had the chance to sing in Altos de Chavón and I haven’t… I’m dying to get to know the amphitheater – I have loads of photos and I’ve seen a lot of videos of it and it is definitely one of the places in the Dominican Republic in which I’d love to perform
