Did you ever drive down La Romana’s Padre Abreu street (near to the Los Toros stadium), seen a castle and wonder “What is that?” So have we! Well, as it turns out this castle is actually a newly opened “Parque Infantil” (children’s park) built using funds donated by His Majesty Mohammed VI King of Morocco.
The Parque Infantil “Marruecos” was officially inaugurated last Saturday the 27th of July in a ceremony attended by His Excellency Dr. Brahim Houssein Moussa, Moroccan Ambassador in the Dominican Republic, Honorary Mohamed el Amin Setti counsul of the Moroccan Embassy, Mayor of La Romana Antonio Adames, Dominican Chancellor Mr. Carlos A. Morales Troncoso, President of the “Reformista Social Cristiano” political party and representative of Dominican First Lady, Mrs Cándida Montilla de Medina, Dr. Claudio Silvestri President and CEO of Casa de Campo, as well as a number of other special VIP guests.
Following a tour of the new park, the dignitaries took their places and the official inauguration took place just outside the gates of the grand yellow castle. During the ceremony Mr. Carlos A. Morales Troncoso raised the Dominican flag and Dr. Brahim Houssein Moussa, Moroccan Ambassador in the Dominican Republic raised the Moroccan flag, while a plaque in honor for His Majesty King Mohammed VI was revealed. The final ceremony to declare the park open was the ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor of La Romana Antonio Adames.
And then the gates were opened… and in flooded hundreds of very excited children from La Romana, who ran excitedly from one activity to the next, clearly thrilled to have a clean, safe area to play.
The Parque Infantil has several different play areas with trampolines, slides, swings, and all kinds of games, as well as a cafeteria, pizza place, ice-cream shop and even a parking lot – a rare commodity in La Romana. It will be open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10am to 10pm offering the children of La Romana a place to run and play safely. Entrance to the park is completely free of charge, although there will be security, and it was stressed during the ceremony that only children accompanied by an adult would be allowed entrance, and also that adults without children would not be granted access.
This was a truly magnificent gesture on the part of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, His Excellency Dr. Brahim Houssein Moussa and the Moroccan government, who through this donation have once again demonstrated their continued support and love of the Dominican Republic and especially La Romana.
