Oscar de la Renta, perhaps the Dominican Republic’s most internationally famous designer and one of the original Casa de Campo villa owners was the designer behind the wedding gown of the new Mrs George Clooney.
British-Lebanese human-rights barrister, Amal Alamuddin wed super-star George Clooney this past weekend in Venice, in a ceremony that rivalled “The Royal Wedding” of 2011.
And the center piece of it all was a magnificent gown by Oscar de la Renta; “an exquisite mille-feuille of ivory tulle appliquéd with fourteen yards of Chantilly lace, its bodice hand embroidered with beading and crystals,” as described by Vogue Magazine.
“It’s the most important dress in the life of a woman. Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her. Amal and I looked at a lot of evening dresses and wedding dresses together, and we discussed what she liked. That gave me the idea of what she wanted.” Oscar de la Renta told Vogue Magazine.
But that was not all. Oscar de la Renta also designed the “Gatsby-style party frock”, the newly wed Amal Alamuddin wore for the second act of the evening.
Congratulations to Oscar de le Renta, you made the Dominican Republic proud!
