The Metropolitan Opera, the largest association of classical music in North America with the “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” program, invites you to enjoy its seventh opera “La Donna del Lago”, a musical composition by Gioachino Rossini, showing this Saturday March 21st here in the Marina Casa de Campo!
Written for the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, this was the seventh of nine operas which Rossini wrote for that house between 1815 and 1822
The opera received its premiere on 24 October 1819, with a debut cast of seasoned singers who regularly worked together, including Isabella Colbran as Elena, Benedetta Rosmunda Pisaroni as Malcolm and Giovanni David as Uberto/King James.

“Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Flórez join forces for this Rossini showcase of bel canto virtuosity, set in the medieval Scottish highlands. DiDonato is the “lady of the lake” of the title, and Flórez is the king who relentlessly pursues her, with their vocal fireworks embellishing the tragic plot. This Met premiere production is directed by Paul Curran and conducted by Michele Mariotti.“
