The Metropolitan Opera, the largest classical music association in North America, with it’s program “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” invites you to enjoy it’s fourth Opera Show “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” a musical composition by Rossini, showing this Saturday November 22nd, here in the Marina Casa de Campo!
Just like “Le Nozze di Figaro” and “Carmen”, “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” is another example of an opéra comique (comic opera) and dates back to 1816.
This Saturday, the Marina Casa de Campo Cinema premiers it’s fourth opera “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”, “The Barber of Seville”, Rossini’s comic masterpiece returns with Isabel Leonard as the feisty Rosina, Lawrence Brownleeas the love-struck Count Almaviva, and Christopher Maltman as the charming barber, in Bartlett Sher’s effervescent production. Michele Mariotti conducts the vivid and tuneful score.
Rossini’s Barber has proven to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music, and has been described as the opera buffa of all “opere buffe”. Even after two hundred years, its popularity on the modern opera stage attests to that greatness.
