The Metropolitan Opera, the largest association of classical music in North America with the “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” program, invites you to enjoy its fifth opera “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”, a musical composition by Richard Wanger, showing on Saturday December 20th here in the Marina Casa de Campo!

As “Le Nozze di Figaro,” “Carmen” and “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”, “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” is another example of a comic opera, and it first premiered in 1868. It is the only Wanger comedy, between his mature works.
It is still one of the most performed operas in the 2005-2010 period, positioning itself at No. 77, while in Germany it is placed as number 18 and Wagner’s 10th, with 50 performances.
“James Morris as Hans Sachs brought enormous dramatic authority and richness of character to his affecting portrayal… The powerful tenor Johan Botha has excelled in the demanding role of Walther… Annette Dasch’s bright, focused voice suits Eva beautifully… She was beguiling in the role… As her father, Pogner, the bass Hans-Peter König was terrific.”, said the New York Times.
“Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” is a play that despite having been made in another age, talks about a topic that continues, and always will be there: What really makes an artist? What is best, to follow the traditions and adhere to the rules and customs, or innovate, to follow your own light? To follow what was told by the master or create your own flow?; It is an issue that has historically caused the greatest ideological divisions in different areas and eras, always the same issue occurs. Follow a leader, a custom, a tradition or take a risk to innovate and break the mold of what might be even an opposition to the system?
If you are interested in finding an answer to these questions, or simply enjoy an entertaining and captivating show, you must attend the presentation of “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” – on Saturday December 20th here in the Marina Casa de Campo!
It is a play that will make you think while you enjoy. It’s a luxury to not be missed!
