This week’s photo was taken by myself, whilst in Santo Domingo – I’m always on the look out for potential ‘Only in the DR’ snaps, I actually sit with the camera on my lap (especially when I’m in the capital.)
This week’s photo essentially speaks for itself – it’s a buggy, on the road, in the CAPITAL city of the Dominican Republic. Now please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but surely, surely this is against at least 1 kind of road law, if not several?
Before I came to the Dominican Republic and was introduced to the perils of the Dominican roads, I understood that cars, lorries, motorbikes etc were the kind of vehicles you would typically find on the road. Since I have been here I have seen golf carts rocking around La Romana (not advisable), a part-car being dragged by a donkey (a missed camera opportunity) and now this.
I can actually understand the donkey/horse contraptions – there are many many poor people here, who (very cleverly) have created their own transport, I commend these people who make the most of what they have.
HOWEVER, the buggy in this photo seems to be more of a big boy’s toy – I can only imagine he thought he would look cool! Tell me – is this cool???

We want your photos and/or stories! If you have any photos of classic DR scenes or even bizarre photos or stories, we would love to hear from you! Email: info@casadecampoliving.com
