Remember back in August when Dominican tennis champion Victor Estrella played Spanish tennis pro Nicolas Almagro in an exhibition match in Santo Domingo? Well, IN THREE DAYS they’re bringing their tennis game to CASA DE CAMPO!!!
It’s game on for the two world ranked players. Estrella, ranked #80 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, turned pro 15 years ago, and became the first Dominican to make it to the TOP 100. In 2015, he won his first ATP World Tour champion title at the Ecuador Open in Quito, and has since garnered two more there, winning back in February of this year against Spain’s Paolo Lorenzi. Recently, Estrella faced off against Bosnian pro Damir Dzumhur in the 2017 ATP Challenger Tour in Santo Domingo, and to the delight of Dominicans everywhere took home the Milex Open trophy, along with $125,000 in prize money.
As for Almagro, this won’t be his first visit to Casa de Campo. The now ranked #146 player from Murcia visited the resort after his exhibition match with Estrella and gave tennis clinics to kids. He celebrated his 32nd birthday here and stopped to chat with Casa de Campo Living about his memorable career moments, like playing Nadal in Barcelona in 2014. Last year, in May 2016, Almagro won his 13th ATP World Tour title at the Millennium Estoril Open against fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta.
