Last year the “barely there” bikini cover shot of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition caused a stir worldwide. This year, Sports Illustrated raised the bar yet again…or should I say lowered? Regardless, we’re thrilled to announce that the 2016 Sports Illustrated features the Casa de Campo Resort.

On their website, they explain that Casa de Campo was the perfect spot for the innovative VIRTUAL REALITY SHOOT which is up for the FIRST TIME! The virtual reality videos showcase former cover models: Nina Agdal, Irina Shayk and Hannah Davis and are available on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit app. See the BEHIND THE SCENES reel below, where you’ll catch sight of the Casa de Campo Spa– shooting in the Water Sanctuary, as well as Minitas Beach.

During their stay, models and crew enjoyed Casa de Campo’s Beach Club by Le Cirque, Pubbelly Sushi, and SBG. The models also rode polo ponies, took a boat ride to Catalina Island, shopped for souvenirs in Altos de Chavón, and left quite a treat behind of their visit! Virtual reality videos require beauty in all directions, so what better place than Casa de Campo?!

Back in October of last year, an entire crew of Sports Illustrated photographers, make-up artists, coordinators and of course models graced Casa de Campo with their sexy presence and used our beautiful resort as the backdrop to a number of photos currently featured in the 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. While the entire operation was kept very hush-hush, our favorite Casa de Campo photographer, Alejandro Heredia (who clearly should get another job as a spy), did manage to spot the group shooting at the 17th hole of the Teeth of the Dog golf course. As you can see from the photo it takes quiet the back-up crew to create the sultry Sports Illustrated Swimsuit pose!

Back in the 1971 & 1987…

Did you know that it was thanks to a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition that Casa de Campo shot to fame in the 1970s?

Casa de Campo was featured in the 1971 and 1987 editions of the magazine; “Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.”

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 1987, Casa de CampoIn 1971, the resort was showcased in a feature article, called “A new era for an old island”, with beautiful images of swimsuit models; Tannia Rubiano, Cynthia Korman and Carmen Luísa Vela, as well as one of Alfonso Paniagua at Minitas Beach, Rancho Peligro, the Teeth of the Dog golf course and the Dude Ranch.

In 1987, the resort was featured once again in an impressive 33 page spread with 7 different swimsuit models; Elle Macpherson, Kathy Ireland, Kim Alexis, Maren Alexander, René Simonsen, Monika Schnarre seen posing in swimsuits all over the Casa de Campo resort; on the Teeth of the Dog, at Altos de Chavón, on Minitas Beach, at the Casa de Campo hotel, at private Casa de Campo villas, at the Casa de Campo polo fields as well as in nearby areas; Bayahibe, Catalina Island and “Oscar’s Beach”, now known as “Playa Blanca.”

When it hit the stands in Winter 1987, the Casa de Campo resort with these amazing shots was on the map!

Will the 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition once again catapult Casa de Campo into the global spotlight?
